School of History and Geography

The School of History and Geography is a secondary college affiliated to Minnan Normal University, a key provincial university in Fujian Province. The Department of History was established in 1996 and was renamed the School of History and Geography in 2018.

The school offers two bachelor's degree programs, namely History (Teacher Education) and Geography (Teacher Education). It began to recruit postgraduates in Subject-based Pedagogy (History) in 2011 and postgraduates in Subject-based Pedagogy (Geography) in 2022. The school currently has a faculty of 29, including 8 professors, 12 associate professors, and 9 lecturers, among which teachers with senior professional titles accounting for 68.97%. And 19 teachers have doctoral degrees, accounting for 65.52%.

Focusing on the construction of teams and platforms, the school integrates high-quality cultural resources from Fujian, Taiwan and overseas Chinese hometowns, condenses its characteristic directions, covers the fields of Ancient Chinese History, Specialized Chinese History, Chinese Historical Philology, etc., and it has achieved fruitful results with distinctive discipline characteristics. Since 2012, the school has participated in the construction of the doctoral program that serves special national needs “Minnan (Southern Fujian) Culture and Cross-Strait Exchange” and Minnan Cultural Characteristic Talents Training Project. In 2020, it was approved as the “Indo-China Peninsula Research Center” by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People’s Republic of China. In November 2016, it has established the provincial research platform Fujian Overseas Chinese Hometown Cultural Research Center. In 2021, History became the provincial first-class undergraduate program construction point, and it was certificated by the Ministry of Education for teacher education in November. Relying on the solid talent training system, the school does a good job in both professional practice and social service, highlighting the characteristics of teacher education, and it has got great achievements in professional practice and talent training. In recent years, our students have achieved excellence in the National Normal University Students Teaching Skills Competition (1 first prize, 2 second prizes and 4 third prizes) and Provincial Normal University Students Teaching Skills Competition (2 first prizes, 10 second prizes and 14 third prizes).
